UPDATE on EU exit

As you will be aware, the UK has now left the European Union (EU) and entered into a transition period ending on 31 December 2020. During this period, the UK will continue to follow and abide by the EU's rules and requirements.

The NMC (Nursing & Midwifery Council) reassures us that they consider nursing and midwifery professionals from the EU to be a vital part of the health and care workforce, providing better and safer care to thousands of people across the United Kingdom. Their commitment and dedication to the delivery of high standards of care is recognised by us and the large number of people they come into contact with each year.

On Thursday 30 January 2020 the NMC wrote to all the professionals on their register from the EU, EFTA and Switzerland, reassuring them that their registration will not be affected by the UK’s EU exit. the NMC also wrote to all the individuals with applications from the EU, EFTA and Switzerland, notifying them that the UK’s EU exit will not affect their application. the NMC made them aware of the EU Settlement Scheme.
