An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 Occupational Therapist to join our Clients Department of Psychiatry. The Department of Psychiatry is an acute adult inpatient mental health unit, with one male and one female ward, based in Sussex.

You will be working as a part of the MDT to assess and support patients during their stay on the ward, and input into discharge planning as well as supporting the therapeutic activity programme. You will work alongside the Band 6 and Band 7 OT and the activity workers to assess and deliver interventions and work in collaboration with the wider MDT including medics, nurses, and psychologists.

To protect the health and safety of our staff/workers, patients, and those attending our sites, we encourage our workforce to get fully vaccinated against COVID

Main duties of the job

As an Occupational Therapist in our team, you will assess the occupational therapy needs of the patient group and deliver programmes accordingly.  This will involve a recovery focused approach using both one to one interventions aimed at developing independent living skills and a variety of group work. The role will also involve supporting individuals to access and participate in community/vocational activities.

You will supervise junior staff and support the senior OT in contributing to service development.

You will manage a caseload of clients on the ward, using evidence based, client centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions.

As part of the team you will also be expected to make an ongoing contribution to the team and the community we serve.  A willingness to work as a team member is a core requirement of the role.  You will also demonstrate both experience and a strong commitment to working with people with complex needs and the development of the therapeutic programme on offer.

The successful applicant must have an enthusiasm and passion for working with this client group. You will be supported by a strong professional leadership structure with a regular OT clinical and management supervision as well as regular peer support and a well-established AHP training prospectus and opportunities for regular CPD.
